“The study of geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world, appreciating the diversity of cultures that exists across continents. And in the end, it’s about using all that knowledge to help bridge divides and bring people together.”
Geography to us is…
Geography at Hillside aims to encourage interest in and understanding of the world around us. We want to give children an understanding of various locations around the world and the different human and physical features that make up our world.
This is achieved through a range of learning opportunities and experiences delivered through an enquiry approach as a curriculum driver. Children learn key knowledge and are encouraged to develop the skills of a geographer such as using maps and carrying out fieldwork.
A year 6 geographer will be able to:
- Compare and contrast different locations around both the UK and the world.
- Identify human and physical features in our world.
- Use maps, atlases and globes to locate seas, continents, countries and other places.
