Personal Development
Personal Development at Hillside Primary and Nursery School
At Hillside, we believe that education is about more than academic success—it’s about nurturing confident, kind, and resilient individuals who are ready for life beyond the classroom. Our Personal Development programme is woven throughout the curriculum and enriched by a wide range of experiences that help children grow socially, emotionally, and morally.
From exciting trips and residentials to whole-school celebrations like Pride of Hillside and Dojo milestones, we create opportunities for every child to shine. We promote mental health awareness, celebrate diversity, and teach respect and tolerance through PSHE, RE, and assemblies. Children learn about British Values—democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect—through real-life experiences, discussions, and themed events such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month.
Our pupils also take part in STEM activities, charity fundraising, and environmental projects, developing a sense of responsibility and community. Safety, online awareness, and healthy relationships are key themes across all year groups, ensuring children understand how to keep themselves and others safe.
At Hillside, our habits Be Kind, Be Ready, Be Wise underpins everything we do, helping children to become unique, exceptional, and sustainable citizens of the future.
